I tried everything they told me. I doctored up my veggies with sauces and seasonings... I added fruit to make those god awful kale smoothies taste edible (didn’t work)... I even tried simply quitting carbs and sugar cold turkey, which lasted for about a week before I broke down.

In the end, NONE of it worked.

And it all dropped me back at square one… with a Big Mac in one hand and a large Coke in the other (plus a whole lot of shame and frustration).

I looked in the mirror, and at 40+ lbs overweight… I was at the end of my rope.

I looked at the “diet crowd” and was ready to give up on ever being one of them… no matter what, I always came back to pizza, burgers, pasta, bread, and anything loaded with cheese, of course.

I felt like an addict.

See, even though your body isn’t getting what it needs to be healthy from junk food, it is getting what it needs to be happy.

Junk food triggers a rush of serotonin and dopamine in the brain that stimulates satisfaction and pleasure…

That chemical release is actually a healthy response in the context of REAL, unprocessed food -- your cravings tell you to eat, you eat regular and wholesome food, your body gets what it wants, and you’re satisfied.

But when you get that chemical release from foods with massive amounts of refined sugar, salt, and fat… something VERY DIFFERENT happens.

You get a much stronger release of “feel good” chemicals in the brain, but without ANY of the nutrition of real food - so your body asks for more and more and more.

So your body thinks it’s getting what it wants -- but only while you’re actually eating. Once the “high” wears off, you’re back where you started… deficient in what your body truly needs and craving food more than ever.

Eventually, it turns into a vicious cycle and you’re hooked - hopelessly addicted to the chemically-induced feeling of satisfaction, but never truly getting the nourishment that will silence your cravings.

One study shows that habitual sugar consumption is just as addictive as amphetamines or opiates!4 And researchers from another study explain:

“...refined foods (e.g., sodas, breakfast cereal, high-fructose corn syrup) should be considered a “classic” addictive substance.5

Then researchers from yet another study argue that sugar should be regulated as a “substance of abuse,” just like tobacco and alcohol.

I realize how angry this probably makes you. I felt the same way when I learned this for the first time.

We sometimes refer to our “hormonal system” as the “endocrine system”.

Kitchen & Cookware - don’t be fooled by non-stick cookware claiming to be safe just because it’s PFOA-free. Although PFOA is now banned, the non-stick chemicals being used in its place are thought to be just and hazardous.10

Toiletries & Hygiene Products - many of the products we apply to our bodies each and every day contain toxic chemicals that interfere with our hormones. Any hygiene product with phthalates, sulphates, or glycol ethers -- or any of the other dozens of commonly used additives proven to upset hormonal balance -- can throw your hormonal system off drastically, making it difficult to revive itself without intervening help.

What’s more, thousands of new potential endocrine disruptor chemicals are synthesized and introduced to our environment each and every year.

According to the CAS Chemical Registry System, the number of new chemicals on file for consumer and industrial use rose from 211,934 in 1965 to a whopping 88,758,285 in 2006.11
